A message for our partners, colleagues, and friends in Florida: The protected lands of the Florida Wildlife Corridor are a place where our collective missions intersect. Land conservation successes contributing to the Corridor help ensure the long-term survival of many species, provide life support systems for Florida’s cities, improve the health of our waters, and protect natural Florida for future generations. As Florida grows, continued investment in conservation lands is critical to ensure that our wild lands will provide benefits to all Floridians.
Overview: Seven Properties Approved for Protection

On September 30 the State of Florida approved funding for the permanent conservation of 22,183 acres across seven properties within and adjacent to the Florida Wildlife Corridor.
Thank you to the leadership of the landowners, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Florida Conservation Group, Putnam Land Conservancy, Family Lands Remembered, Saunders Real Estate, Dispersed Water, LLC, Keith Fountain Law, and other partners for coming together to make these opportunities possible.
The properties are Little Orange Creek Project – Little Orange Creek LLC (Photo 1), Bar B Ranch Project (Photo 2),Caloosahatchee/Big Cypress Project– Hoot Holdings, LLC (Photo 3), Big Bend Swamp/Holopaw Ranch Project – Lakes Place LLP (Photo 4), Caloosahatchee/Big Cypress Project – Finca Vigia Ranch (Photo 5), Remlap Ranch (Photo 6), and Bentley Ranch (Photo 7).
Remlap Ranch and Bentley Ranch are to be protected through a rural lands conservation easement funded through the Rural and Family Lands Protection Program at the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Little Orange Creek, Bar B Ranch, Caloosahatchee/Big Cypress Project– Hoot Holdings, Big Bend Swamp/Holopaw Ranch Project – Lakes Place, and Caloosahatchee/Big Cypress Project – Finca Vigia Ranch are to be protected through conservation easements funded through Florida Forever at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

Remlap Ranch, located adjacent to the Florida Wildlife Corridor, is a 5,940-acre ranch recently approved for a rural lands conservation easement through the Rural and Family Lands Protection Program at the September 30 meeting of the Governor and Cabinet.

Remlap Ranch is a family run cow/calf operation. The property extends the protected lands in the Northern Okeechobee Watershed and Lower Kissimmee Basin. Freshwater marshes are throughout the ranch and provide ecological services such as flood control and water purification. The ranch is home to several threatened and endangered species.

The 5,631-acre, Caloosahatchee/Big Cypress Project– Hoot Holdings, LLC, located within the Florida Wildlife Corridor, was recently approved for a conservation easement through Florida Forever at the September 30 meeting of the Governor and Cabinet.

The Caloosahatchee/Big Cypress Project– Hoot Holdings, LLC helps bring connectivity between Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge and Big Cypress National Preserve to Dinner Island Wildlife Management Area and is part of the Caloosahatchee Big Cypress Corridor. The land provides habitat for the Florida panther, Florida black bear, crested caracara, Florida sandhill cranes, limpkins, and more. The property is used for agriculture and crops including watermelon, peppers, and tomatoes.

Little Orange Creek Florida Forever Project – Little Orange Creek LLC, located in the Florida Wildlife Corridor, was recently approved for a conservation easement at the September 30 meeting of the Governor and Cabinet. Little Orange Creek Project is 3,094 acres and in Putnam County.
Thank you to the landowner, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and Putnam Land Conservancy for coming together to conserve this property.
The Little Orange Creek property provides a key connection to the Ocala to Osceola Wildlife Corridor, bringing habitat connectivity between Little Orange Creek Nature Park, Putnam Lakes Preserve, and the BJ Bar Ranch conservation easement. Protection of the wetlands preserves water quality of Little Orange Creek, a tributary of Orange Creek. The land also provides important wildlife habitat to gopher tortoises, Florida black bear, sandhill crane, swallow-tailed kite, and more.

Bentley Ranch is a 2,559 acre cattle ranch and citrus and berry operation. The property is located southwest of Highlands Hammock State Park and other protected lands. Oak Creek flows through the southern half of the ranch. The land proves habitat to crested caracaras, burrowing owls, gopher tortoises, and more.

The 1,889-acre property is a working cattle ranch within the Caloosahatchee Big Cypress Corridor. The land provides important connectivity between Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge and Big Cypress National Preserve to Dinner Island Wildlife Management Area. Finca Vigia Ranch provides habitat for the Florida panther, Florida black bear, crested caracara, Florida sandhill cranes, wood storks, snail kites, and more.

Bar-B Ranch is a working cattle ranch for several decades. The project protects the hydrologic connection between the St. Johns Rover and Everglades watershed. The ranch is a critical restoration area for water storage to support the improvement of downstream water quality in the St. Lucie Estuary and the Indian River Lagoon. The land provides habitat to wood stork, deer, little blue heron, roseate spoonbill, and more.

Big Bend Swamp/Holopaw Ranch Project will protect the connection of natural lands between Bull Creek and Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area. The property is a working cattle ranch located in Osceola County. The ranch is divided by the Florida Turnpike with a wildlife crossing connecting the land. Located within the Lake Kissimmee/Kissimmee River watershed, the property contributes to water quality and quantity in this important hydrologic network. The ranch provides habitat to eastern indigo snake, Florida sandhill crane, Florida long-tailed weasel, red-cockaded woodpecker, and more.

4G Ranch

4G Ranch is a working cattle ranch in Pasco County. The property is part of a Pasco County Beneficial Water Reuse project that provides water into the aquifer. 4G Ranch has several surrounding lands that are protected by conservation easements. The land also provides habitat for sandhill cranes, roseate spoonbills, turkey, deer, and more.

Northeast Florida Timberland & Watershed Reserve Project is located south of Cary State Forest and Thomas Creek Conservation Area. Protection of the land will create an important connection to Cary State Forest and protect water quality for Lower St. Johns River Basin. The property provides habitat for Florida black bear, red-cockaded woodpecker, gopher tortoise, and more.
